"Prof. Dr. Birgit Vogel-Heuser stands for excellence and commitment! Her internationally recognized research is the clear proof that a successful economy needs automation. This makes her an important pioneer of future innovations for the professional world of the future," emphasized Science Minister Markus Blume at the award ceremony on March 7 at the Gärtnerplatztheater in Munich.
Prof. Birgit Vogel-Heuser is an extremely dedicated scientist with great successes in the field of automation technology. After graduating in electrical engineering, she completed her doctorate in 1991 with a dissertation on the programming of welding robots.
She then worked in industrial research and development until 2000, while continuing her academic career: After holding positions at the Fernuniversität Hagen, the Bergische Universität Wuppertal and the University of Kassel, she took over the Chair of Automation and Information Systems at Technische Universität München (TUM) in 2009. Vogel-Heuser is also a member of the Board of Trustees of the Deutsches Museum, the Munich Data Science Institute and the Munich Institute of Robotics and Machine Intelligence (MIRMI) at TUM.
Her research focuses on system and software engineering as well as the modeling of distributed and reliable embedded systems. Her focus is on the challenges arising from the increasing demand for customer-specific products in plant engineering.
Dr. Vogel-Heuser is a strong voice for her field in various national and international organizations, committees and research projects. She is a member of the Verein Deutscher Ingenieure e. V., the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft e. V., the Deutsche Akademie der Technikwissenschaften e. V., the International Federation of Automatic Control and the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers.
For her work, she received the Adam Opel Award for Manufacturing Automation in 1989 and the Society for Rehabilitation Sciences Award in 1990. In 2005, Dr. Vogel-Heuser received the special prize of the university competition "Get the best - more women in research" for her commitment to women in the natural sciences.
