Handover of the Kinderoase at TUM

The new “Kinderoase” at the Technical University of Munich (TUM) was officially opened with a key handover ceremony today. The daycare center will provide space for up to 60 children and expand the childcare options available on the downtown campus.

The five-story wooden building was constructed on a previously undeveloped site on Gabelsbergerstraße. The rooms are organized by age group and are complemented by shared areas for physical activity, play, and meals. A rooftop terrace and a vertical play area spanning multiple levels expand the educational offerings and create additional spaces for physical activity.

The building was realized based on a design by Prof. Francis Kéré (Kéré Architecture; Chair of Architectural Design and Participation at TUM). HK Architekten led by Hermann Kaufmann, former professor of design and timber construction, handled the construction planning.
The Kinderoase was financed and subsequently donated to TUM by Honorary Senator Ingeborg Pohl. The new facility is intended to strengthen the ability to balance family life with studies or work right on campus.
