TUM Freezer Challenge for Laboratories

Ultra-low temperature freezers (ULT freezers) are an integral part of research and teaching in laboratories, but they consume a great deal of energy. With the TUM Freezer Challenge, the TUM Sustainability Office is inviting all laboratories with ULT freezers to take part in a voluntary competition running from 29 April to 30 October 2026. The aim is to implement and strengthen sustainable freezer management practices. Depending on the scope of the measures implemented, participating laboratory teams can achieve different levels and take part in a final prize draw.
