Successful Studying
Skills for Your Studies and Your Future
The Center for Key Competencies (ZSK) supports you in making the most of your studies and in your personal development.
We guide you from the start of your studies through to graduation with programs that help you structure your learning, conduct academic research, carry out projects, and broaden your perspective beyond your major.
Our programs are practical, flexible, and specifically tailored to engineering students. This way, you’ll develop skills that will help you advance in your studies and later in your career.
What We Offer
Studying means more than just attending lectures. It’s about finding your own path, overcoming challenges, and taking on responsibility.
That’s exactly where we support you—in four areas:
Shaping your learning
Starting in a new life situation brings with it many challenges. Whether it is the start of your studies or moving to another country - with the right support it will be easier. At the ZSK, we offer various programs to help you settle in.
Working scientifically
The aim of the course is to strengthen your skills in an academic context and prepare you optimally for your own academic projects, whether for a seminar paper, a thesis, or your future professional life.
Learning through projects
Project-based learning at TUM ED promotes practical problem solving and interdisciplinary thinking. Teamwork, communication and self-management strengthen both professional and social skills for everyday working life.
Understanding the context
As part of the contextual studies program, you have the opportunity to attend courses and modules from other schools, departments or chairs in order to supplement your studies with interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary educational content.
Networking
The TUM ED networking events connect students, researchers, and professionals from practice — fostering interdisciplinary exchange, hands-on insights, and new perspectives in engineering and design.
