Campus-Development
TUM will be implementing important construction projects over the next few years. In particular, the expansion of the campus for the Department of Aerospace and Geodesy will change the appearance of the TUM School of Engineering and Design and the communities of Taufkirchen and Ottobrunn.
Since its launch in 2018, the Department of Aerospace and Geodesy (ASG) has grown rapidly and established itself as an important player in European aerospace and geodesy. With the strategic roadmap ASG 2025, 2027 and 2035, TUM is systematically driving forward the expansion of infrastructure, research and teaching. As early as 2025, BSc teaching will be concentrated in Ottobrunn, new research initiatives will be launched and important industrial partnerships will be established. Close cooperation with space agencies, companies and start-ups will secure the department's leading position in aerospace geodesy.
New buildings for teaching and research will be constructed on an area of 7.5 hectares. From the winter semester 2025/26, courses for Bachelor Aerospace students will take place in interim buildings in Taufkirchen/Ottobrunn.
ASG 2025 – “GROUNDBREAKING”
ASG 2025 marks the start of the next major development step: a modern interim building will be built in Taufkirchen by October 2025, creating space for the growing number of students. The Bachelor's degree course in Aerospace will be completely relocated from Garching to Ottobrunn. The new infrastructure will relieve the pressure on existing locations and promote an integrated academic environment for aerospace and geodesy. Revised curricula and the rental of additional key real estate will ensure a smooth transition and a consistently high quality of education.
ASG 2027 – “NEXT HORIZON”
ASG 2027 marks the start of the department's next expansion phase. The number of professorships at the Ottobrunn/Taufkirchen site will grow to 36, enabling new research focuses in areas such as space-based quantum technologies, satellite communication and sensor networks. At the same time, a new Master's degree course in aerospace is established, further expanding the range of courses on offer in Ottobrunn.
ASG 2035 – “BEYOND BOUNDARIES”

ASG 2035 marks the start of the final major expansion phase for the Department of Aerospace and Geodesy. On the way to around 50 professorships, a permanent university campus with state-of-the-art research infrastructure, new industrial partnerships and expanded teaching opportunities will be created in Ottobrunn. At the same time, the ASG is focusing on an interdisciplinary and internationally networked approach - with new research initiatives on sustainable aviation, planetary exploration and AI-controlled geodesy. Investments in state-of-the-art laboratories, flight test centers and high-performance computers create an innovative environment that brings together students, researchers and top experts from all over the world. The TUM ASG Campus will become the center of an innovative and interdisciplinary ecosystem that makes it possible to think and act beyond borders.
From the winter semester 2025/2026, courses for all Aerospace Bachelor students will take place in interim buildings at the Taufkirchen/Ottobrunn site. At the start of the semester on October 12, 2025, lecture halls, seminar rooms, workstations for students and space for the student council will be set up.
