Professor Birgit Vogel-Heuser, Institute of Automation and Information Systems and Vice Dean Research and Innovation of the TUM School of Engineering and Design (ED), had already compiled current research topics and practical applications of the digital twin in engineering and design in an interdisciplinary network meeting of the ED. With this series of lectures, the initiator, lecturers from chairs and schools at TUM and representatives from industry will provide an overview of the various aspects and challenges of digital twins, from logistics to additive manufacturing to (interior) architecture.
In the view of Vogel-Heuser, Industry 5.0 represents a paradigm shift towards a more collaborative and human-centered approach. Essential developments in this area are, on the one hand, a digital human twin that is coupled with the digital production twin. On the other hand, standardization of data formats is fundamentally necessary to enable the interaction of different digital twins - especially an international standardization is necessary so that market-leading German companies remain competitive.
