Urbanism – Urban and Landscape Studies and Design M. Sc.
The interdisciplinary Master Urbanism – Landscape and City is aimed at graduates of different bachelor degrees of a design-oriented or analytical first degree with a spatial focus, especially for architecture, landscape architecture or planning and regional planning.
The immense ecological, economic, social and aesthetic changes within our cities and cultural landscapes arising as a consequence of the process of global urbanization represent a challenge for all space-related disciplines. Therefore a close cooperation between different faculties is necessary.
Graduates need methodological, technical, personal and social competences, which are necessary in the spatial planning and design working area. To develop spatial strategies for complex challenges in the future within present framework conditions, the urbanist is – unlike the undergraduate studied urban planner – able to merge disciplinary specialist knowledge with interdisciplinary knowledge. So graduates qualify for research and practice in the area of urban development and urban planning. The academic degree Master of Science (M.Sc.) entitles to a Ph.D. program. in a research field that is rooted in interdisciplinary cooperation between architects, urbanists, and landscape architects within the Department of Architecture, and that is unique in Germany.
