How companies can adapt quickly to new situations

Especially in uncertain or dynamic times such as crises, manufacturing and service industries must adapt quickly to the new situation. Prof. Khaled Medini (Mines Saint-Etienne, Univ Clermont Auvergne, INP Clermont Auvergne) and Kathrin Land (TUM School of Engineering and Design, Chair of Automation and Information Systems) are addressing this challenge as part of the GFA lighthouse project RAMP-UP II. They are developing a methodology and decision-support tools to manage such ramp-up and ramp-down projects in order to improve the resilience, agility and sustainability of manufacturing and service industries, as well as close collaboration and resource sharing.

The main objectives of RAMP-UP II are:

Development of a ramp-up/ramp-down management approach allowing for resilient and agile value networks, particularly, in uncertain and dynamic environments.
Integrate resilience, agility and sustainability related indicators for planning and managing rampup/ramp-down projects.
Develop decision-support tools allowing to implement and assess alternative collaboration strategies and decentralized decision making in dynamic environments.
Modelling and representation of knowledge about stakeholders involved in value network.

To address these objectives, a multi-disciplinary approach is necessary, combining expertise in industrial management, multi-agent systems and artificial intelligence, enterprise modelling, knowledge representation, automation and data management. The recommendations support agile ramp-up management and are designed to help practitioners to deal with frequent ramp-ups in a more effective and structured manner.

Both researchers will present their insights at the Here.We.Go.-The Future Industry Forum on October 17, 2023! This year is marked by the 60th anniversary of the Élysée-Treaty between France and Germany. This is a wonderful opportunity to bring together the French-German network, to celebrate the friendship between the countries and discuss innovation and industry 5.0. At this year's forum the most important existing and new potential partners of the GFA will come together to present their achievements, exchange ideas and network.
