In his laudatory speech, Thomas Glauber, Bavarian State Minister for the Environment and Consumer Protection, praised Drewes' research for a secure water supply of the future that thinks in new ways. Climate change is altering the availability and distribution of water all over the world, which is why sustainable water treatment processes, water recycling and energy recovery from wastewater are necessary.
Glauber particularly emphasized the practical work of Drewes, who, after stations in the USA, Australia and Saudi Arabia
has headed the Chair of Urban Water Management at the Technical University of Munich (TUM) for the past ten years and not only works in the laboratory, but also initiates forward-looking collaborations with waterworks and wastewater treatment plant operators. "Your outstanding research work has been recognized and awarded internationally. However, you not only publish your expert knowledge in professional journals, but also contribute it to numerous commissions on topics of public health, drinking water supply and water treatment. As a result, the general public benefits from your expertise," said Glauber.
Drewes accepted the award on behalf of his department and thanked his department team for their tireless efforts on behalf of the environment over the past ten years.
